Instructions | Patient Preparation: • Patient should follow physician instructions regarding fasting. • Some medications may affect blood glucose (eg, steroids, antihypertensive medications [thiazides], and diabetes medications [metformin]). Patient should follow physician instructions if any need to be discontinued prior to test. • Patient may drink water during test. • Patient should refrain from chewing gum, drinking coffee, and smoking just before and during test. Performance of Test: • Give patient 75 grams of Glucola drink. • Patient should remain at rest during test and report any nausea, vomiting, heavy sweats, or dizziness to nurse or laboratory staff. • Draw blood specimen at 2-hour post Glucola ingestion. Label specimen with Mobilab label or with patient name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, collector initials, and test(s) being ordered. |
