Instructions | Collection Instructions: Specimen should be collected by trained nursing staff or physician. Swabbing both the lower vagina and the rectum (through the sphincter) increases the yield substantially compared with sampling the cervix or the vagina without swabbing the rectum. Collect using Copan Venturi Transport System TM swab or BD Liquid Stuart (red top). 1. Remove Copan Venturi Transport System TM or BD Liquid Stuart (red-top) swabs from sealed package. 2. Using first swab, swab lower vaginal area followed by rectum. 3. Repeat process using second swab. 4. Place swabs into the sterile transport tube. Swabs should go all the way into tube until they rest on top of sponge at bottom of tube. Test is performed at the HealthPlex campus only. Transport: Refrigerated (2-8°C) or at room temperature Stability: Stable for 24 hours at ambient temperature or 6 days at 2-8°C Rejection: Due to incorrect swabs or source. |
