SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Instructions NRHS will perform Total Testosterone testing on all males 18 years and older.
Specimens on females and children 17 and under will be sent to RML. 

PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Allow serum sample to clot completely before centrifugation.
2.  Keep tube stoppered at all times.
3.  Sample must be centrifuged and separated from cells within 2 hrs. of blood draw.
4.  Remove any residual fibrin or cellular matter.
 
STABILITY: 
1. Separated serum may be stored at room temperature for up to 8 hours.
2. Separated serum may be stored at 2 to 8°C for up to 48 hours.
3. Separated serum may be stored frozen at -15°C to -20°C if extended storage is    necessary.
4. Frozen samples can be thawed and frozen up to two times.

Label specimen with patient name (first and last) or other unique identifier, patient hospital identification number or Social Security number, date and time of draw, collector's initials, and test being ordered.

STORAGE:
Room Temp, Refrigerated, or Frozen.
 
REJECT DUE TO:
1. Grossly hemolyzed specimens must not be used.
2. Specimens outside recommended specimen storage temperature and stability.
