SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS
Instructions Patient should be at rest before drawing sample.
Movement of hand or arm should be avoided.
Avoid hemolysis.

Draw a full, grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube. (Do not use tourniquet when collecting specimen.)
Place specimen on wet ice immediately and transport to lab immediately.
  • If sending a plasma aliqout, spin down within 15 minutes of draw, and send 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride plasma.  Keep on ice and transport to lab immediately.
     
Note: Label specimen with patient name (first and last) or other unique identifier, patient hospital identification number or Social Security number, date and time of draw, collector initials, and test(s) being ordered.
